

Measurements involve the quantification of variables in order to compare against other variables
Scientific measurements rely on the International System of Units (SI) – a globally recognised metric standard
Examples of scientific measurements include:
Mass (amount of matter in an object) – measured in kilograms (kg)
Volume (amount of space a substance occupies) – measured in cubic metres (1 cm3 = 1 ml)
Time (the duration of an event) – measured in seconds, minutes or hours (s / min / hr)
Temperature (the kinetic energy of particles) – measured in Kelvin (Celsius also used)
Length (distance between two points) – measured in metres (m)
Other measurements also exist – e.g. lux for illuminance (lx) or arbitrary units for absorbance (AU)
