Habitats

A habitat is the environment in which a community, species, population or organism normally lives

  • The interaction between a community and its abiotic environment (habitat) forms an ecosystem

Habitats may differ according to specific environmental conditions and can be described in terms of:

  • Geographical locations – tropical environments exist at the equator while polar habitats are found at the poles

  • Type of ecosystem – for example, grassland environments are found at diverse locations, including America (prairies) and Africa (savannahs)
